BEAUMONT, Texas — A Southeast Texas travel agent located in Beaumont is being sued after accepting money from clients and not following through on the vacations.
According to a lawsuit obtained by 12News, Traveluxe Official, owned by Emily Lockhard -Furry, specializes in creating dream vacation itineraries.
Lockhard-Furry breached a contract with a customer out of South Carolina, according to the finalized court documents. There are similar allegations on social media in Southeast Texas, but those cases haven’t gone to court.
A lawsuit filed in the 136th district civil court says that the local travel agent accepted an advanced deposit of $80,557 for a luxury Italian vacation, but the South Carolina customer had to cancel and, according to their contract, was owed a refund on that deposit.
Lockhard-Furry said in writing that she’d refund the money in four payments, but only about $10,000 was received. That’s when the customer called a lawyer and sued from the remaining $70,000 in the end a judge sided with the customer awarding her the money owed.
The judge added on another $140,000 for violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
